Independence Animal Shelter

The shelter has many needs and relies on the generosity of volunteers.  To become a shelter volunteer, contact:

Examples of volunteer activities include:

Volunteer Services:

• Adoption counselors
• Guides for shelter visitors
• Educational services
• Spay/Neuter clinic staffing
• Foster homes for animals:  50 hrs. prior shelter volunteer experience required

Augmenting Daily Operations:

• Grooming animals
• Walking animals
• Providing play toys, blankets, kitten food, rubber door mats that hold disinfectant, etc.
  
• Clerical support, especially answering phones
• Grounds upkeep (flowers, signs, etc.)
• Organizing supplies and equipment

Capital Improvements

• Outside, covered drop area where pets can be left after hours
• Dog visitation area:  play equipment, fencing, etc.
• Sound baffles for dog rooms
• New puppy cages
